VR Viewer Design Dimensions

Bleed Area: Make sure that your background extends the bleed line to avoid your VR Viewer from having visible white edges when trimmed.

Front Flap, the minimum resolution needed is:
6.54in x 8.77in @ 300ppi / 1960px width x 2635px height

Side Wrap, the minimum resolution needed is:
12.73in x 4.78in @ 300ppi / 3820px wide x 1435px height

Trim Area: This is where we aim to cut your Viewer. No text or graphics (except background) should be touching the edge of the trim.

Safe Area: Make sure any important aspects of your design such as text and logos are inside of the safe area, otherwise they may be cut off.

Recommended File Types

To help as many people as possible, Powis accepts a range of different formats. These are: PDF, AI, TIFF, PNG, JPEG. Be certain to deliver to files with 300+ ppiwhen there are less than 300 pixels per inch, the image might look blocky or 'pixellated'.

These are the formats we recommend:

  • For photography: high resolution TIFFs or JPEGs
  • For Graphics or Text: print-ready, vector based PDFs or EPSs
  • For a mix of graphics and photography: print-ready PDFs

How do I know if my file size is large enough to print?

Digital images are made up of tiny squares of color called pixels. To determine if your digital image will print nicely, take the total number of pixels divided by the sizeso if the image is 600 pixels wide by 600 pixels tall, and is being printed in a 10 inches square, it has a resolution of 60 ppi (pixels per inch).

Digital images used for print should be at least 300 ppi. For comparison, the iPhone X is 458 ppi and the Galaxy S8 is 529 ppi. Thankfully, todays technology makes it relatively easy to produce files that are large enough to print welljust avoid taking graphics from your website since designers make those files as small as possible to increase web load speeds.

A quick way to determine whether your bitmap image (TIFF, JPEG & PNG) will be high enough resolution to print is to look at the file size (these numbers do not work for vector formats such as AI, PDF, & EPS). This method isn’t 100% accurate, but will help you determine if your image size is close.

If the digital image is less than 250kb, it will not be suitable for print.

• If the digital image 250kb-500kb, it might be usable as a small thumbnail.

• If the digital image is 500kb-4mb, it will likely work well for logo and most graphics,
but not be large enough for a background.

• For a background, the digital image usually needs to be 6mb or higher.

What is the best format for my logo?

The best, most universally accepted logo file type is AI or EPS. These file types allow your logo to be enlarged to giant sizes—to even the size of a car—while maintaining the desired crisp detail.

If your logo was originally created in Photoshop, thus must be in bitmap format, then TIFF or PNG are pretty good options. However, be sure to set your color mode to be CMYK (not RGB) and make certain the resolution is 300 ppi or higher.

What is the difference between vector and bitmap images?

A bitmap (e.g. TIFF, JPEG, PNG) is made up of a thousands of tiny squares or 'pixels'. These pixels are all the same size, but can be in a huge range of colors. The amount of pixels shown in an image is called 'resolution'. When there are lots of pixels and an image looks smooth or photographic, that's 'high resolution'. When there are less pixels an image might look blocky or 'pixellated'.

Due to the fact that there are a set number of pixels in a bitmap image, they don't hold up well when zoomed in or enlarged. For this reason, we ask for bitmap images at 300 ppi or larger - so your design will look smooth & beautiful when printed.

A vector image is created by mapping out X and Y coordinates to plot each point on a line or curve. This means that vector images are scalable and can be enlarged to billboard size while maintaining smooth edges.

Where possible, we recommend saving graphic designs, text and line art as 'vector based' PDFs. This is possible in applications like Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign. You can download templates for each of these applications.
